Bringing this back up can someone post the GNTX # on the back of the compass mirror. It should be on the left side looking at the back of the mirror.

Well, I have an '09 with a standard, non-dimming, non-compass mirror. It does have the OnStar buttons. I pulled it off (real easy) and unplugged the 16-pin connector. I plugged in a GNTX 511 which has a compass and auto-dim as well as the OnStar. Plugged 16-pin harness in, worked flawlessly.

Today, I got a GenTex with everything above, with an added plus of two map lights. Pulled the 16-pin plug, swapped mirrors, and plugged the connector back in. Everything worked flawlessly, almost. No map lights. I think it would have to have a fuse added or another wire ran. Anyone have any ideas or a 16-pin connector pin-out diagram?

OK, I looked on the back of my new mirror, but there is no GNTX number. I also see that there are several sensors and an unknown module on my newest mirror. I have taken a couple of photos, hopefully, someone may be able to shed some light on what I have.

This is the front of the mirror. Note the green sensor on left side, also, the other two LED just show power to compass and OnStar on.

Note the module on stalk. This contains a circuit board and is hooked up to internal board of mirror. Have no idea what it's for.

Windshield view of module. Everything works EXCEPT for the pair of map lights.

Uncle,
The green sensor on the left is for auto-dimmining. While its hooked up point a flash light at it and the mirror glass will darken.
The module on the end of the stalk is your compass.
Ive taken several of these apart at the junk yard.

Cheers !

Thanks. I didn't know what the module on the stalk was for. I have another mirror that has the compass, no module on stalk, but display is larger. Anyone happen to know which pin/wires power the map lights? That is the only thing that doesn't work at present.

My '09 has the same mirror w/o the map lights. Not sure why your '09 SS doesn't have auto-dimming as this is standard. I would look into this and talk to the dealer.

If you wanna test for the map light pins. Take a battery jumper box and make leads off of both the red and black. Then just hold one lead on the first pin and continue to touch each of the other pins w/ the other lead. If it doesn't light up continue on to the next pin, holding the same lead on the next and continue to touch each w/ the other lead. ect ect. This is what we do at work with driver and passanger mirrors to see if they work. We test Left Right and updown movement, auto dim, powerfold, and blinkers. Good Luck uncle danny

did some testing on the one I bought from ebay. If pin 8 is ground pin 6 will power the map lights. mine appears to be the same as yours except for the onstar portion. will continue to test pins as I have yet to figure out which one powers the compass and autodim......

hope that helps UncleDannie

Thanks a bunch HHROwner, that does help. ChevyMgr posted a diagram of the 16 pinout but I can't find it. It might be on one of the threads. Anyway, Good Luck!

Awesome! Can pretty much switch out a standard mirror with map lights only for a auto-dimmer and direction sensor with next to no work? Time to hit the salvage yard!
