Automatic Shifter Console Problem?

Hey guys and gals,

Tried to do a search but nothing that applied seemed to come up. I have been wondering about the shifter console (I'd call it a boot but it's hard plastic on my automatic).

When my HHR is in park there is a large gap by the shifter as seen in the photo below. When it's in gear (D) that gap goes away. I have been trying to look at a few pics around in all of your galleries but it looks like when you all have your vehicles in Park there is no gap.

Can someone confirm if something is wrong with mine or if I am just losing it? I purchased the vehicle about 3 weeks ago and it came like this. There doesn't appear to be anything broken (hard to see in the pic but the end appears finished, not snapped off).

Anyone with any idea?

That sure doesn't look right I would go out and check for you but Chris took Black Knight to work.

Yeah, it looks like something is wrong. I've been spending some time at the dealership in Venice over the past couple of weeks, and while waiting, i've been in a fair share of HHR's, just comparing them to mine... I've never seen anything like your problem in any of them. It's probably just a defect, and they should take care of it for you.

That grey piece is surrated to flex into a channel when the selector is moved forward and backward. It appears that that piece may have broken on one of the surrations. Look real close at the edge of the existing piece and see if it appears rough....maybe like a broken edge.

It must have broken after delivery to the dealership. No way that would have made it through final inspection at the assembly plant.

You never know what people will do when looking at new cars. Some people poke and prod things just to see what they're made of. Someone may have busted this while it was sitting on the dealer lot.

hell, it's probably just a defective piece that broke after a couple of uses. No big thing. Aggrevating.....yeah, because it will require the inconvenience of a visit to the dealer. But it can be fixed easily.

Thanks everyone... I was asked by everyone that got into the vehicle if that was broken and I kept telling them that no, it's always been like that.

But like I said, I peeked at some of your pics in the galleries and realized something might be wrong.

Thanks everyone!
