However i have a sunroof so i loose some roof space and i see part of your secret now is removing the back cover to drop the wheels down a bit.
I do have to lean them over sideways to get them through the hatch, but once inside even my large size early 90s bianchi with the road-style frame fits ok with the seat in riding position.
However I do see the sunroof as being a problem, forgot about that. When buying the HHR I realized I would not fit with one, nevermind the bikes.

how tall are you. I keep on seeing people mention no being able to fit with a sun roof and i just don't get it. I am 6'2", and i have what you would call "tall hair" and i am a couple inches away from the roof even with the sunroof. It did take a few minutes to get the seat back into the sweet spot after my wife drove yesterday though.

I have an extra large frame on my hybrid and 700x35 wheels on it. But even with the front one off i don't think i could stand it up from fork to the handles, i don't even have those adjusted up either. There was a lot of swearing the day i tried to take it to the shop with my wife's bike. i ended up putting hers in, having her drive, and i rode mine to the shop

It looks like it has a universal clamp that would clamp on both rectangular and oval bars. Give the shop a call to double check.

I am 6ft 7inches tall and all my height is in my upper body so I don't fit in HHR's with the sunroof. But i fit great in my HHR without sunroof

I think I will order them as they should work fine on the factory cross bars that I have. Overstock.com has the 'Swagman' brand for $64.99/pair with $1 shipping right now...can't find a cheaper price anywhere!
