The only bad spot on these cars is the a pillar, its too thick, rear view and side view are normal.
Thats gotta be the problem, as Idont think it is any worse then anyother car. Now I have not driven the panel and I can bet it is worse. But the 4 door should not be that bad for anyone

The HHHR is my first car(4-door) in over 25 years, been use to driving pick-um-up trucks with great visibility and big aftermarket mirrors. That is what my comparison is. In the HHR when I physically turn to look I just do not see as much as I use to. I do not like relying upon mirrors. I was always taught, turn-and-look.

I have replaced the passenger side mirror with a flat mirror and added the small convex mirrors to both side mirrors.

It seemed a little extreme for me, so I kinda split the difference. It makes a HUGE difference on what you can see.
This is what many car people are suggesting these days. I first heard it on Car Talk.

I believe it to be correct, but it is hard to get use to.

Personally I find that being able to see my car in the mirror gives me better depth perception. IMO, the mirrors on the HHR are perfectly adequate and show a lot of the adjacent lanes. Whatever blind spots there can be gotten used to quite easily. I think the large pillars add a lot of strength to the HHR as attested by the cars excellent passenger protection in an accident.

My daily driver is a 2002 Dakota pickup and it's A-pillar is probably bigger than the HHR and the rear visibility is blocked by the cab sides between the windows and the backlite.

I like the mirrors on the HHR. They're much better than my previous Cobalt mirrors.

Great post!

As far as the headlights go......

Having owned my 06 since Sept 05, didn't notice any problems with the lamps, but when I "upgraded" to a set new lamps, stock Premiere Edition ones, there was a noticeable improvement over what I had become accustomed to.

Remove the passenger side rear headrest and you will be able to see a lot more.

I have the AA5 body (Half Panel) and I removed both headrests from the rear seats, added spot mirrors, and adjusted them out to just catch a glimpse of my body in the mirrors.

Backing out of a parallel parking spot is done blindly, as nothing helps. I usually look real good before I get in the car to back up.

I did exactly the same thing as you and it works great. I got rid of the rear seat headrests the first day I bought my HHRLT
