Broken console latch

Has anyone else had this happen? My wife pushed the button to open it and I noticed the button was crooked. I pressed it a few times and ended up having to break the plastic tabs holding the latch to get it open. Now it's stuck open...

Anyone know where I can get a replacement for a reasonable price? The cheapest I found was about $100 after shipping...

You could try www.gmpartsdirect.com but they might be a little pricey. Otherwise you might try eBay, or a local junkyard. I don't think they are too hard to remove, but then again, I've never done it. I know I've seen one or two for sale on eBay before.

Yeah thats the only place I've found it and after shipping its nearly $100. I don't think any of the local junkyards here have any HHR's. It's not hard to remove the compartment, just two phillips head screws and it lifts out

Mine broke a while back and I fixed it with super glue, there are little screws that hold in that button and if you glue the threaded plastic back together then put back said screws it works. Actually fixed it twice this way.

Tried that twice already. The first time, it worked for about 30 minutes and did the same thing again. The second time, one of the threaded plastic pieces split in two...

Check the local junk yards. Every HHR has one and GM parts direct are rip offs once you add the shipping.

A local yard can even get one from out of town off there web links to other yards.

Could this be why there is a "recall" on the latch?
