Broken HHR
Hi All. I just wanted to check in with you all to let you all know that I may have lost my HHR. I was in an accident last Tuesday due to the weather conditions (snow and freezing rain) and hit a patch of ice on the highway and hit a median. I was okay and no one else was involved but I did do some damage to the front area of my HHR The bumper is badly messed up and the radiator also has some damage as well. I may have also bent the frame. It is currently at an auto collision center getting an estimate done to see how much the cost could be for it to be fixed or if it will be a write off. We were talking to one of the guys on Friday at the shop and he said there could be about $5,000 worth of damage that was done. It will depend on the insurance company if they want to fix it or not or if they will just write it off as the car is not worth what it will cost to fix it. We had planned on fixing up the HHR this coming summer with a new paint job and adding some running boards and other parts. We previously picked up a bunch of different parts for it this past summer to get the project started. But now it looks like we won't be doing the work to it. I was heart broken that this happened. Our HHR was a good little car and I was hoping to get another 3-4 years out of it before we sold it. I guess sometimes you never know what life will throw at you. I attached a couple of pics of some of the damages but there is a lot more than what u can see in these pics. If the car can't be fixed or if insurance writes it off then we have to decide what our next vehicle will be.
We actually did test drive a GMC Terrain this past summer before we decided to do the work to the HHR. The Terrain seems to be a nice car. I wanted something that was very similar to the HHR with regards to size and cargo space. We only have Chevs and GMC's at our house so I have to keep it in the family, lol. I'm not a huge fan of the Equinox so the Terrain might be what we decide. We are looking at the Denali edition for 2015 at the moment. We plan to have the car for a few years. We had our HHR for 10 now and it only had 94,000 miles on it. When we had bought it, it already had 45,000 miles on it so as you can tell we didn't go far with it. I shall keep you all posted as to what happens this week with the HHR.

Tanya, I'm happy you are ok, the HHR protected you!
The tires seem to be pointed in the same direction, the nose seems pushed in but the grille isn't visibly damaged, as you say there is more damage unseen.
Let us know what the insurance company decides.

If it is a writeoff and you are strapped for cash, hhrs are very cheap on the used market. You should have no problem getting a similar vehicle with the insurance money.
The terrain is a nice upgrade but more expensive than the equinox, which is basically the same vehicle.

Did the airbag go off? Next month will be a year mine was totaled. My drivers air bag did go off and I had 117K on it. I ended up with about $8500 from insurance. If your airbags didn't go off, you might be safe.
