Bummed out again

Well, I took my HHR to get the tire fixed today. I had a nail in the right front. I took it to a place in town I usualy get my tires form. When they were done I inspected the rim an found they weren't to careful and now I have a groove on all of the five spokes about an inch form the outer lip. When I left the shop I went to the dealership to order one. List price is $605.00. The shop is goint to replace it. I knew I was dreading getting the tire fixed.

Ouch! Whatever happened to the "taking care of the customer" mentality? That's horrible.

That's really a shame. Glad to hear you're getting it replaced at their expense though. Maybe they were hoping once the damage was done that you'd buy some new rims from them.

Having managed several tire stores, I would suggest you move your business to a shop that uses "touchless" rim mounting. This newer technology is specifically designed to prevent damage to expensive alloy wheels. Even the "old style" mounters provide plastic covers that snap onto the tooling to prevent mars and scratches.

I hope you get a new wheel quick!

Best of luck,

Went to Pep boys to swap my 16's for 17's. They "discovered" scratches on the rim before they mounted them (even though I swear there were none before they put the tires on). On top of that, they broke my wheel lock key and tried to charge me to break the locks on my wheels! Something like $120! Once again claiming that it was defective and just broke...I told them to take my car off the rack pronto...i paid for the tires and took them to the dealer to do the job...luckily they broke the locks and replaced them for no charge...

it only sucks because I couldn't PROVE they scratched my rims since I didn't buy them from them and had no detailed pictures...

Sorry to hear that Jeff. I have touchless equipment here if the need arises again.

Navy...
This happened to me AT THE DEALER!!!
I had (still do) a shimmy in my front end at or around 60mph and in attempting to get it fixed, the dealer threw common sense at the problem first (so they say).
First thing- re-balance the tires. Well- that process left me with a perfectly symetrical circle ALL THE WAY AROUND the hub area on my polished 17" rims. No new surprise there...
The dealer replaced without questioning and stated they use a 'felt-type' pad to prevent scuffing/scratching. Well- by the looks of things, the felt was either extremely worn, or MIA (<-- more likely the case )
Again- yet another example of a dealer not knowing a product/not caring enough to notice the little things.
(BTW- they never test drove my vehicle before OR after to see if it fixed the issue ... it exists to this day)
