Burning Rubber Smell
#21
I'll play closer attention to it tonight on the way home. It just hasn't been doing it lately. I wonder if the dry weather has anything to do with it? It hasn't rained in weeks here either.

Mine was kinda doing this too, it ended up being that the e-brake cable that runs by the tire had shifted because of a broken clamp under the rear seat area. The shifting caused the cable to ride the tire causing a burning rubber smell as well as wearing the protective coating off the cable which eventually caused it to bind when using the ebrake..fixed under warranty and all is good!

Actually both rear tires have the cable running at an angle from the front of the wheel well (about 5 inches in) towards the center of the wheel hub. You can actually see it by looking in front of the rear tire, its black but may have a white tag hanging from it. it should be pretty solid when you grab it.....also since mine was damaged, it must've caused the rear brake to hang, cause after it was fixed i had better acceleration and about 2mpg better economy....BONUS!

For what it's worth, I took my SS in last weekend to have this problem diagnosed and I had a plastic bag stuck to my tailpipe. They cleaned as much as they could then I have to let the rest melt away.
This happened on my old car, my Dodge Magnum, as well. I was watching when the bag blew under that car and got stuck. At the time I pulled as much off as was possible but it didn't all come off then on the first try either.
Makes me feel better that it's not a problem with the car per se, just wish I could get rid the the smell immediately instead of waiting for it to go away.

oem muffler
i have 08 2.4 auto...i used to occasionally notice the burning rubber smell...i was trying to remember the last time i noticed it...i may be wrong , but i think it was before i put on aftermarket muffler...this is only a guess , but the oem muffler could be the cause of the smell.
