Buying HHR, what should I know?

I'm buying a 2006 HHR LT on Wed. What are the issues, things that can go wrong, service advice, ect?

The HHR is a cool ride with great gas mileage, enjoy it and don't worry about what COULD happen, if you still have warranty there will be some things to check out if you don't well........good luck and enjoy the ride

Need more info. Does it have running boards? If not you might consider a set. Due to the way the fenders stick out the lower rocker panel area at the front of the rear fenders will get grit-blasted and eventually feel rough to the touch and maybe even take on a hazey appearance over time. Running boards prevent this from happening. Or 3M clear protective film.

Before you take delivery give the brakes a good test slowing down from interstate speeds. Some HHR's seem to periodically have a problem with warping their front disc brake rotors. The symptom is pulsation or shudder when braking.

That's really about it. The HHR is a solid platform, using one of GM's best engines, the Ecotec 4 cylinder.

The avg MPG reading on the Digital Information Center on my '07 (see sig) is currently reading 28.9 mpg for in-town work commute driving and weekend errand runs. The work commute is 12 miles each way, a route which has 14 stoplights and two 4-way stops in the 12 mile length. Of course I catch some of the lights green sometimes, sometimes not. Speed limits on this 12 mile commute are 35mph, 40, 45, and 55, in various sections of the route. So I feel like that is not bad indicated mpg in-town for a vehicle the size of the HHR.

Also, if it has a sunroof, take the car to a car wash with a strong overhead water stream. Some of the 2006 sunroofs leak. And Ranger is correct regarding the brakes.

Thanks for the feedback

I just bought my HHR yesterday(White '06 LT w/10,000 miles) for $11,000. The brakes seem fine and I wouldn't buy any car with a sunroof. Every car with sunroof I have ever had leaks and smells musty. I'm going to the dealer today to get the extended warranty.

BTW, that's pretty low miles for an '06. Good find. What color is the interior? I think you should post some pictures asap
