A/C Gas Mileage ?
#21
On a recent trip up the Natchez Trace (federal parkway here in MS, 50 MPH speed limit), traveling @ 52mph (per GPS) with the A/C on, the DIC said 42-43 mpg on a level road, no uphill or downhill. On a 4 lane highway @ 62 mph it reads 34-36 mpg. On the interstate @ 72 mph it reads 30-32 mpg, while running 78 mph it reads 28-29 mpg. All these readings are on a level roadway, A/C on, no hills or grades (in which case it drops to 12 mpg whille accelerating up a hill)!
This is an '08 2.2 auto with 7700 miles on it. I'm averaging about 800 miles a week (I use it as a work car) with the cheapest gas in it I can find, 32PSI in the tires, and a K&N air filter.

Altitude plays a major factor in gas mileage. Also the weather and heat. An average 90degree day can place you a couple thousand feet higher than you are. Those claims on the window stickers are just that and mean nothing if you live in the Rockies. I'm averaging 21-22mpg area here.
