car top carrier

Many years ago, I had a car top carrier that I could take on and off as needed. It was a universal fit device that basically latched onto the rain gutters. I'd like to use something similar for my HHR but don't know if such an animal still exists. I have no interest in installing a permanent roof rack or rails. Any ideas?

I have used mine 3 times. Fits everything with or without a roof rack.

I have a car top carrier but I have the side rails..... without side rails how would you tie the bag on the roof as we have rain gutters or the like to put the hooks to.....

Just curious.

I just want a roofrack I can tie lumber to. A bag would do me no good. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I am have been looking a solution for this myself.... my findings are..if you want a good rack you need to have at tracks afixed to the roof.. you can get a track that works for Thule or Yakima accessories.... the tracks are almost flush to the roof so when You take the risers and crossbars off you don't have wind resistance... there are A LOT of places on the net to find them... I have priced this out and its a min of $280.... there are also a few racks that use straps and clamps but haven't found the one one for our HHRs.. personally I am going to go with the Yakima set up...
