Question Clicking sound when hit the brakes (in Park only)

Help-

New click sound today. Started my 08 HHR & when I applied the brake pedal to remove it from park, it had a "Click" sound..

Doesn't do it applying the brake in any gear or neutral. Just when running or key on, & in park ??

PS: This Click sound can be almost be muted by holding the gear shift lock out button.

Never did this before, Appreciate any input offered.. Operates just fine otherwise..

TIA, Billy

Maybe you just never noticed it before. The click is the brake to shifter interlock so the vehicle can't be put into gear while the car is running with no foot on the brake. It's a safety feature.

Yup, just the Shift Lock Solenoid doing its job. I can hear mine about half the time in the 2007 and the one in the 2011 is about twice as loud. Just one of those things you notice out of the blue.

I don't know about the HHR, but the Lumina does it REALLY loud, I would just assume it's that, and it's normal.

Thank You ALL for the replies !!!

Thanks for all the replies.

I've had mine for about 1 year & 4 months..

Have never noticed this sound before..(That I'm aware of).. But it makes sense since that's how it functions...

Perhaps the level of sound is 'temp' related, or it just isn't as loud all the time.. I thought it sounded like a Relay, which concerned me. But vehicle operates perfectly..

At any rate, these are the type of answers that make me feel good..
I won't say foolish, cause I know the only foolish questions are the ones NOT asked..

Thanks again to ALL..........

Jim-
My shift lock will only click once when held, but it must be in park for full engagement to click, with key on, or running.

Dayton-
I guess it's considered normal.. Just never heard either before. The Brake solenoid, or the shift lock out solenoid.
