…new gear clamps? Do you mean like new hoses clamps with screw/ thread slots? If so I like to use the stainless steel ones.

I thought that was what you meant. Other than spring clamps, those were all that I knew off

Me too, and I was taught to not reuse spring clamps, no particular reason.

So long as you can get the jaws on the ends you are good to go. The only other problem, and it can be a bear is when the hose is swelled.

Hose spring clamp tool

They also make a tool that the jaws are at end of a cable to get to the impossible places regular plier handles wont work in
