Okay Everyone, it would seem that you'd really only use this screen when you hit the road and want to keep your kids entertained, so you'd only bring it down when you do hit the highway and are out of town. Would it really be illegal? You'd still be able to keep track of traffic in your rear view mirrors, wouldn't you?

I know that some folks who live in big cities can take awhile to get across town, but what happened to letting kids play games for those stretches, they don't need to be watching TV all the time. I remember when we'd play some kind of game counting VW bugs, that kept us kids busy. Car bingo also kept us busy....though I know kids today might find those dumb....so let them invent some kind of game for who can spot the most HHR's.

Only if a cop sees it. I had an in-dash DVD player in my last car (I'll be installing into my HHR soon), and I installed a switch on the parking brake sensor wire to turn the screen off and on as necessary. But truthfully, I had it for 2 yrs and never once got hassled for it. And it kept the kiddos nice and occupied.

Besides, even if you do get a ticket it will be a "fix it" ticket.

You're absolutely right. Kids don't need TV all the time. I think the DVD is great for long car trips, for instance, we drive from the Toronto area to Florida in the summer and if not for the TV, the adults don't get a chance to have any conversation, never mind the peace of mind!

We tried it for the first time last summer, we rented a vehicle and were given a van with the DVD - it was a God send. I swore I would never take a trip without one again. We actually had an uninterrupted conversation and a relatively peaceful trip.

Having said that, I too remember the days of the "VW" games and I spy, etc.
