2006 the turn signals are DRL, other years the low beams are DRL.
If the switch is on "auto" the headlights turn off automatically, if they are "on" they stay on until the switch is turned to "off" or "auto". See page 3-14 in the 2006 Owner Manual. Evidently Canadian models are a bit different.

You probably leave the headlight switch alone, so it stays in the "auto" position.

DRL was covered extensively not long ago, including Canada differences and industry attempts to harmonize standards internationally, in another thread, but now I can’t find it.

I have always left mine in the 'auto' position.
