Safelite charged $80.00 for the job and they came out to the house. I think it's $20.00 bucks cheaper if you go to them.

It is cheaper to go to them. The "lunch box" got one crack when it was 4 months old (really upset me). Then last summer it got another crack. Was pretty much satisfied with Safelight repair of the first but the nature of the second crack and their repair leaves me less satisfied. I hate concrete roads for that very reason.
And while we are on the subject, the laws should say that any dump/construction vehicle that comes off a jobsite is REQUIRED to remove gravel/rocks debris prior to entering any public road. I've had more dings/cracks from those knuckleheads and their dirty vehicles.
Soapbox away.

couple years back in my trailblazer on rt 81 I had a damn two by four come over the top of the car in front of me put a huge dent in the hood.
I am assuming you have glass insurance thats why the install was so cheap?

I find it strange that you had to pay at all. I have Allstate full coverage(Liability, Collision, Comprehensive and Uninsured Motorist) and although I have not had to use it on my HHR yet(knock on wood) I did on my Dodge truck twice and there was no charge to me at all either time, no deductible...nothing. Maybe I have "glass" insurance and don't know it. I do know that I have a deductible and there was still no charge to me for 2 the windshield repairs.

trade ya...2 weeks of buying mine, i had to replace my windshield due to rocks. to date, i have had 5 chips fixed and a total of 15 nicks in my windshield. i have found chips in paint on fenders, grill and headlight assemblies. sad. dont know why my car attracts rocks. but still wouldnt trade it for anything :)
fyi, i put on 200 miles a day, traveling all sorts of highways.

I just had the windshield broken on my SS last week from a small rock thrown by a van in front of me. Was on a city street, not the freeway. Insurance will cover aftermarket or OEM-made glass, but they will not pay for dealer-glass. Since my HHR is only 2 years old, I decided I'd like to have the OEM glass with GM logo to match all the other windows. The factory glass is made by Crinamex. Cost at the dealer was a little over $400 not including sales tax. A glass installer that does all the Chevy's for my local dealership will be R&R'ing the windshield at my housefor $95. He is quite familiar with the HHR windshield and the HHR's cowl idiosyncrasies (ie. needing to be careful around the cover over the cabin filter). BTW, my original windshield is already heavily pitted, but I have been driving home from work several nights a week through freeway construction for months. I will definitely be taking surface streets home once I have my new windshield.

I had Safelite out last Monday to fix a chip from the Friday before, i called my insurance, they waived the deductible and sent Safelite Monday morning, the chip that was about the size of a dime is barely noticeable now, all at no cost to me.
