Suggestion….I want to put some USB charging ports in the plastic dash bezel. How much space in behind the lower section? The longest (dual usb) is 59mm. Though really rather have a single in each lower corner.

Thinking….for the dual maybe. Left and right for singles.

Single.

Another dual configuration…

Dual….59mm long.

Looks like an open space in the centre, under the HVAC controls, just have to be sure there’s still room for the power outlet and rear wiper switch

Is there a good point to power these from the fuse box on right side of the console?

I suggest finding an outlet that is made for the job. The pics you show are usb ports that are to be soldered to a main circuit board.
Something like these=

It pops right off. Don’t be too afraid of it. Go in and have look. There are probably a youtubes on radio replacement that will give you some reassurance.

Stick fingers in AC vents, yank. Real involved requires highly trained technician.
Back space is not your problem. the attachment pins take up all of the edge space.
Any of the fuse positions labelled "spare" are hooked up to the RAP relay (like the radio and windows). I think the ones labelled "empty" are live, not sure.
The 12 v power outlet (cig lighter) is within 3 inches, problem? Do you use it? Get the dual usb replacement.
