USB ports added: update

I got my USB ports installed and all is doing well. I back pinned large red wire to supply what little power they required (6 amps max.) I made a staple out of a larger paper clip soldered my wire to staple and wedged it in good between the wire insulation and the crimped end….

inline fuse then thru switch so can turn on…(same switch I used for when Im towing it, so can turn off and wont drain battery)….fused also.

Are you using a paper clip as a conductor?

I was going to say, no worries, paper clips are made from zinc-plated steel wire. (The plating would make it easy to solder.) But then I decided to double check and discovered these surprising facts, courtesy of Quota.:

They’ll be fine until the fire starts.

I would try to steer away from splicing into the main battery feed. Too many chances for unintended consequences. Your house, your fire.

not sure what kind of clips they are talking about but these are definitely metal….and what appeared to be chrome plated…very shiny anyway, which I scrapped off in the area I needed to solder to.

I understand. I feel like I have done it in a safe manner….I didnt butcher up the wiring…didnt even cut and splice a wire…everything is fused…the usb’s themselves dont hardly draw any power…3 amps per port x 2 (2 of them). More power than that from static discharge…lol
