My wife had a incident with her HHR and she would like a a dash cam so she can get a license plate the next time. I know in Russia they are used extensively because of accidents.

 

I use a magnetic mount and aim the camera of my note 3 forward and hit record.
Mind you I have a 64gig mem card and the 32 gig in the phone.
Records about half an hour then I need to hit record again.
At christmas I was a few cars back and recorded a guy going off the left edge of the pavement and flying back to the right across all 3 lanes of the highway into a guardrail then the car spun 3 times in place and rolled back into traffic. His was the only car involved .All the nearby vehicles were missed. All over in about 3-5 seconds.

 

I have the Ambarella Car DVR a.k.a. Mini 0801, Been running them since my last two cars. The one I have right now is about 2 1/2 years old and still going strong.

They have newer versions of this cam out now, Looks like the Mini 0805 is the latest in this range according to the dashcam review folks. I may get another one to place on my rear window to face out back.

The G-sensor GS8000L is small and has LCD screen. If you want a more discreet, check out the Mobius dash cam.

 

I bought a cheap $35 1080p dash cam off ebay. Had it 2 years and i run it every work day. Never had a problem. Incredibly detailed. If you buy one make sure it has a loop recording feature. The camera records a certain amount of time than starts over and records again. You never have to start or stop recording, it does it automatically. Only needed once so far. had someone back into me. They could have easily said that I rearended them, but the camera don't lie

I just recently bought and installed the GW-1 C dash cam. It uses a capacitor to store enough power to shut the cam down and is not affected by the heat in the sun in the windshield as a battery model. I got it on ebay, and it was shipped directly from China (the makers of the systems for just about all dash cams) and was $51.00 including shipping. It also included a rear view mirror clamp along with the suction cup mount. It takes very good day and night videos.

 

I'm currently running a B40/A118 in the front and a FineVu Pro Full HD in the rear (I don't recommend this one since it's pricey/ outdated and there's better ones out there, but it works fine for the rear). I also use the G1W-C and H models in my other vehicles. I have the front one always on (can switch of if it's being parked for longer than a few days) and the rear is turned on once the car is started. I've been using various dashcams for almost 3 years now and it's already paid off due to a collision in which the other driver stated I intentionally rammed her SUV (she received a moving violation for failing to maintain a lane and my insurance recovered 100% from hers). I have a Compustar Dash CD-3200, can't recommend it highly enough. It has optional GPS, front and rear cameras, and it records in park mode if anyone/thing crosses close enough to your car. The rear camera has to deal with tint and the defroster lines, so it's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.
