dash mounted 12V accessory outlet

Hi, I noticed that some HHRs come with covers over the dash mounted 12V accessory plug and others don't. Why isn't this the same for all HHRs? Maybe it has to do with the optional smokers package (cigarette lighter and ashtray)? Thx

Mine came new with the cigarette lighter in there. No rubber cover.
Window sticker says I have the Smokers package even though I did not order it.

My wife's 09 had a lighter , we gave it to the salesman to pass on to someone who could use it. I think there was an ashtray that fit in one of the cupholders. I am not quite sure as that was over 4 years ago and I hadn't thought about it since.

My guess is mine came with optional smokers package (cigarette lighter and ashtray). Wouldn't need cover with cigarette lighter.

I picked up this dummy plug at local parts store. Gives dash 12V outlet a more finished look.

The local Chevy dealer offered to order replacement 12V accessory trim ring with cover. This would require waterfall removal (dash panel where 12V accessory outlet is mounted). Though I understand Chevy dealers have this handy tool that allows installation from the front.

It does have to do with the Smoker package, or it was replaced at some time. The 12-volt power outlet IS NOT a cigar lighter outlet they are different on the insides.

A solution we found at Home Depot--a small recharagasble flashlight that stays plugged in all the time. At night it has a single blue LED. When you turn it on it shines white. It only sticks out about a inch or two from the dash. It has been handy to have.

Is this the in-dash flashlight you were referring to? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded...0070/203595947

It looks very similar. The tube is a little different and is red. When we got ours I think they were available in red, silver and black. Its good to know they mstill have them.
