If the car is less then a year old Onstar will still work. Or any of the mentioned above.

Make sure u spend the $40 bucks for a Spare key!

This isn't gonna help you, and you won't believe it, but I locked mine in my HHR once. Luckily I left the sunroof open (vented). It is not as big a gap as you think... I took an old carburetor spring and hooked it on the end of a broom... and on the 2nd try, hooked the loop around the key and pulled them out!

I can't believe my plan worked.

still under warranty call roadside assistance covered under gm warranty for roadside did the same cost me nothing. Yes I have Onstar but unfortuantely we did not notice it until we got back to the car after a few days and when we called Onstar it will only work if the vehicle has ran in the past 24 hours nice of them to tell us that we they brag what Onstar can do

This may be an urban legend........

Someone told me and swears it is true. They said some remotes work off of a frequency we can not hear but a cell phone will deliver. If you have some one at home and they have the remote they can open it from there over the cell phone.

I have never tried it and would not bet my life on it but certainly worth a try?

Anyone verfiy this or is it another urban legend?

Now that's ^^^^ a Wild One! Gonna have to check that one out ! Not to be a Smart A$$ but in this case if they had the extra remote they would not have needed the cell phone idea as they could have just stepped outside the house, I believe there HHR was parked in the driveway !

witht he remote being in the GHz i would find it hard to believe that the mic in a fone would pick it up.

You are correct, it's all to do with the frequencies. A cellphone mic is made to operate in the audio voice range of 300 to 3,000 Hz, the FOB operates on 315 MHz (*) which is in the UHF RF range and impossible for the mic to pick up.

Sorry I only had the FOB for my work truck (Suburban) so do a search for the FCC ID of the HHR FOB and you should be able to find the frequency, in any event it's certainly above the audio range.
