Dealer says I have no sunroof??HUH??
While trying to get the wind deflector fixed from the dealer on my 06 HHR, he says it isn't covered because "the computer" says I don't have a sunroof.....huh? Clearly we were both looking at the sunroof as we were having the conversation, but he says my vehicle (which is a fully loaded 2LT) does not list a sunroof in the database. This is clearly a GM sunroof which looks like every other HHR with a sunroof I have seen. It is definitely factory for the HHR, no question about it. MY question - how do I determine when or how the sunroof came about?
This one is reeeeally annoying me. Thanks everyone.

There may not be numbers anywhere on it.Many production pieces only have what's called a "production number" that may or may not refer to a service part number.
Did you order the car new?Or did you buy it from a dealer's stock?Dealers have been known to add things to car to boost the sale price and their profit margin. And some of those added features are similar but not identical to factory pieces.
And yes,I've seen some really daffy stuff on the GM VIS system-missing VINs,missing options, etc.Several years ago, when I worked at a Chevy dealership,we had a Pontiac Transport come in that according to the VIN had a 3.1 Chevrolet v-6 engine in it.What ws really under the hood was a 3.8 Buick engine-and no it hadn't been changed.

I bought the car used (one owner) from a dealer. The sunroof is clearly a factory installed sunroof. They are telling me that because it is not listed on the car at the time of manufacturing, it isn't covered. Had I known that, I wouldn't have bought the car unless they agreed to cover it. This is nonsense.

Check the option list in the glove box. If you can get the option code it may be listed there.
Or even contact Chevy and see if the they have an original build sheet they can provide. I have been given this by Pontiac in the past when I asked for it.
I would try a few things as it should be listed some where.

Sometimes the dealer has to call the corporate office to make sure of the info on your vehicle. Make sure your dealership calls to confirm your sun roof. I've heard that the data base is not up to date. 1 Dealership couldn't even find my VIN number until they called the crporate office.
