Take a look at the paperwork you signed, and possible consult with an attorney of your own to see if they have any leg to stand on. I have never heard of this being legal, so they are probably full of it. A well-written letter from a lawyer of your own might just shut them up, although it would cost you a bit. Where the heck is this place so others in your area can avoid them?

From reading the back story, it was only about 14 days before damaged frame was relayed back to the OP.

DONT PAY THEM A DIME until a Judge orders it! The deal is done and they have to accept their loss! Be very cordial with them and DO NOT talk to anyone else without an attorney.
Chevy MGR is right, here in Texas that would not go far at all.
Good luck with that, and seek legal council ASAP!

I always thought the dealer had someone in their maintenance dept. inspect the vehicle first to make an offer for the trade in. Did they do this?

Consult an Attorney! It my cost a little but you don't want to get screwed. I would also contact the local BBB.

I don't think they have a leg to stand on. Unless you get something in writing from a lawyer, I wouldn't worry about it. They can't sue you over the phone.

It would probably cost them more than the $1700 to litigate it, so my guess is they're trying to bluff you into paying and may have no intention of following through with a legal challenge in small claims court.
