is the dealership ripping me off?

ok i checked out a 2007 hhr lt with 113,000 miles, at cars.com the price says 7,499 at the dealership it says 8,999 on the tag then i looked into trading my 2003 trailerblazer with 132,000 to cover most of the cost and they only offered me 4100 bucks trade in, seems way low to me for a fully loaded car in decent shape.

is the dealership being greedy or downright just trying to rip me off?

Isn't greedy "business as usual"?

Anyways, they should give you the lower price if they have it listed on cars.com for $7,499. As far as the trade, any dealer will give you the lowest price they think they can get away with.... they really don't want your trade unless it's something very special and even then offer bottom dollar.

Best bet is to hit them with a cash deal based on the cars.com price and since it's cash get some tax/tags discount and sell the Trailblazer yourself at a reasonable price based on fair bluebook. I know that may be hard on the pocketbook at first but you would come out better in the long run if you can pull it off.

Best of luck.

Well, the HHR is holding it's value surprisingly, and trailblazaers are NOTORIOUSLY junk. So no, I would say it sounds about right. I wouldnt give em 8999..or 7999. Get em down to 6800$ and it would be a decent deal.

I should have added in my earlier post..... Just as a frame of reference. I paid $11,000.00 cash out the door for an '07 2LT with 19K miles. It's got all options but leather..... Still has factory power-train warranty.

I paid 15k out the dor with 4 miles, brand spankin new. Purchase price does not mean anything, if he is looking for a used car, it isn't going to be cheap because they are suprisingly holding their value. However, I am seeing low mile HHR's on CL all the time in the 10's. Which is why I said, no way I would pay that 8999..OR 7999. 6800 and we will start TALKING.

If you're going to pay that much, I'd try to find one with a few less miles, but that's just me... And I agree, try and sell the Trailblazer outright. If you can do it financially. You'll get more money if you do.

Was the salesmen smoking a cigar and wearing a plaid suit with a red tie?
Did he tell you he was your friend?

You might want to check your hand for missing fingers

I paid $9800, out the door, for my '09 1LT with 32k miles. I'd keep looking if I were you.
