Excellent question. Actually, when I started across the street after stopping at the stop sign, I saw his car a block away. And he said he saw me stop at the sign. The problem is that he was speeding. After driving for 33 years, I never noticed how far back I allow a car to be before crossing-it is just instinct. So today I took notice. Even if a car is 1/2 way down the block, you have ample time to cross. So he was really moving. Plus, the street was wet from raining all day. He never should have been driving so fast on the narrow one way street anyhow.

HHR's don't have frames.
You've got a bent axle and / or wheel. Be sure they replace the bad parts with new. Don't accept straightening of bent parts. Also don't drive very far or you will ruin your RR tire real quick.

Lee....
Just saw the rear picture illustrating the damage to the right rear brake/ hub assembly. OUCH !!!
Appears if the hub and bearing is as far as the damage goes, might not be to bad. But, if any part of the axle assembly was damaged, they more than likely SHOULD replaced the entire rear axle assembly, since it is sold as a entire unit. Plus some brake parts, also.
Wow.....good luck and let us no what the resolution is.

Here is the car I rented-the next best thing to an HHR.

That car is identical to my wife's car, color and all. They really are good cars for the price. I'm a big guy with a stiff back and bad legs, so I have trouble getting in and out of it, but once I am in, it's a great car. Makes a good little sister to the HHR.

Here is the update on my car. I got the accident report yesterday, and as expected it was non-judgemental and did not place anybody at fault.
As per the estimate, I received that last Tuesday afternoon. (Pretty quick, since the accident was Friday night and they told me it could take up to a week). The adjuster was great, and really into the car. He even took photos of the engine and the body for his personal collection, and took my home phone number so he can meet me at future car shows. He said there is absolutly no chassis damage. Only the axel was bent and will be replaced with a new one. The bumper was not even scratched, but all of the brackets, mudflaps, springs, shocks, wheel well, etc will be replaced with new parts. Now, the only delay is waiting for them (Chevy said about a week.) By the way, the total estimate is $2844, less my 500 deductable. Geico is paying $30 towards my rental car. Geico will try to get the deductable along with the additonal 10 bucks I have to supplement for the rental when they go after the guy that hit me. But like I said before, I could be held partially at fault for not yielding to him (I allowed plenty of room had he not been speeding, so how could I have known???).
