Different Exhaust Setup

HELLO EVERYONE.

New to this fourum. Just purchased a 2006 5-speed 2.4 daytona blue HHR.
Has some miles on her (52,000) But mostly freeway from original owner.

Love it so far. Thought about changing the exhaust.. Mostly for mileage.

I come from owning chrysler products.. Traded in my 01 jeep cherokee and my 98 dodge neon sport coupe for the HHR. This is my first chevy.. I must admit I am very impressed with how well this thing is.. Very quiet on the road.

Okay, back to the topic..

Exhaust..

I had a dnx fart can on my neon. and a dynomax on the cherokee..

My brother has a 07 satun Ion... He wanted a muffler but didn't want to pay alot or have that rice fart can sound.. I told him to try what some were doing on the neon fourm..
that is...
** take two cherry bomb mufflers...
** mount one right after the cat(there is a resonator tube there already)
** mount the other one where the muffler usually goes.

He had it installed and the muffler shop thought he was nutz. But after the install the muffler shop said that was the best sounding four cylinder they have heard.. They were going to recommend that set up to people from now on..
Sound wize.. It is very nice. Not ricey at all.. It has a race car type sound I think... Everyone that hears it is very impressed with the sound.

POWER: He has the manual... Before the car was okay for speed.. Afterwards driving it.. I must say was taken back by the difference in power.. It really puts you in the seat alot more..

Noise: inside the cabin it's not really that bad.. I mean you hear it of course.
but it is an enjoyable noise.. Now when you get on it you really hear it come to life.. Now on our HHR's It may be quiter due to be a longer vehicle and better sound deadning.

Just thought I would throw this exhaust set up out there for those on the fence as to what to put on... It's a very low cost alterntative... Oh yeah I had my coworker install that same set up on his cavalier.. He still can't belive I talked him into it.. BUT more surprising is he can't belive how great it sounds..

Let me know if you try it. I had a 60 series Flowmaster installed. It is not bad around town but is annoying on the interstate. Cruising along at 75+ MPH it puts out a loud droning noise that really get on my nerves. My wife made this comment the other day, "I hate that stupid muffler that you put on".

Anyway I was thinking about adding a Cherry Bomb/glasspack in line with what I have now. I don't really want to take off the $150 Flowmaster.

Well I was in my brothers saturn the other day for a long trip... I am not sure if I want to go back to a loud muffler setting ( it's really not that loud).. He did commment on the fact that the stock muffler didn't sound that bad.. It got me to thinking.... Maybe I will just take of the center resonator and either add a straight pipe ( 3 INCH PIPE DOWN to stock size) there or just add a glasspack in place of it.. It might give a little bit better performance and abit more of a better exhaust sound.. I have a 4 month old now So the loud exhaust set ups I am use to and like may not be best for me for awhile lol....

With the flowmaster.. I would have a muffler shop take out the stock resonator and add in a glass pack.. That would really help cut down on the noise with out hurting performance much.
