Looks like they tried to sell it before, but didn't sell.

So they are stripping what they can off it, getting it closer to original.

I like suicide doors, can appreciate gull wing doors, but have never been able to comprehend lambo doors. Guess it must be a generational thing.

The people who would have been intrested in this car, would have bought it because it was a work of art at the time. Then as it would have been now, had they left it alone. Someone would have thrown it into their collection eventually.
I hate the fact that they took stuff off. they should have just tucked it away.

I really don't know the full history here on this one but GM did give out a lot of HHR's early on when the HHR came out to show how they could be customized. It is not unusual for GM to change cars like these to salavage titles to cut the chain of liability.

Adds are it is not wrecked but if it ever was and the way the doors are GM would want no liability if some one got killed because the door disloged in an accident.

Often many SEMA and other show cars customized are crushed when they are done. We donate a lot of parts to many of these cars and often they are destroyed when the service is done. Lawyers have killed many cool cars.

As for the stripping. I would bet they are just trying to take things out to get the money from these parts and also to lower the price of this one. To be honest there are a lot of things I could do to my own HHR for that kind of money and still have a lot left over. It is a tough sell at this price and at a higher price it is a for sure no sell.

The more I look at it, the more I like the hatch, it reminds me of wagons back in the 70's. Those swing out rear doors did make loading certain things easier than a vertically opening hatch.

Personally I think Chevy missed the mark by not doing the hatch as a two part assembly, a lift up top half, and a lower tailgate. Because there are times when having a tailgate would be nice.
