My SS is getting 22 MPG with more of a city mix than highway. That includes some runs on the highway of 100+ and some stop light to stop light runs! During break-in period it was averaging 26!

At the dealer it said 17 MPG cause all they did was lot driving and short around the block drives. I asked about it, and the sales guy said to just reset everything on next fill up. Been right on the dot since.
We live on a bit of a hill and go up and down the 1000 feet in elevation every day about 5x

Our Yukon hates where we live to the tune of 9 mpg so were still happy with the SS's 17 or so.

On the highway it is real easy to settle the speed at 75mph and have the display read 35 to 37. Oh yeah Baby!

We know. It is what it is. At first oil change we will have it checked.

We are very happy with the car though. First small car and first 4cyl car I have ever owned.

Yes it's an Auto. No 5 speeds available in CA when we bought ours. I would like to see production numbers 5spd vrs auto. I would bet 10 to 1 in the SS anyway.

My situation is pretty much the same, except plug in '08 HHR SS (w/auto)instead of the 2.4/LT.
My average will drop a bit if it's more driving @ 70 'ish mph and A/C, but it climbs back up to 28.7 in short order if i take a 55mph route(cruise set @60) to/from work (Got a 30 mile section of road i get 39-40 instant MPG , BOTH WAYS so it's not a downhill kinda thing happening )

Maybe you should go old school in computing MPG's, and do the fill up, take down the fuel put in numbers, and do the calculating on the next fill up.Maybe a chance the DIC is "off"?

Okay, I think I have it now. These are stylish, fun vehicles that get great mileage and performance if you want it enough to get the right combo (which ANYONE can order and not depend on what the dealer has in stock).

Forget Seafoam. Get a bottle of BG44K fuel system cleaner. Its the best pour-in-tank product you can get. BG Industries supplies professional automotive service shops with fuel system cleaning products.

Disappointed with mileage and power. Tried cleaners and it made it hard to start....

Hi,

I have a 2006 LT2 with a 2.4. Bought it with 40K and have 65K on it now. Gas mileage has never been what everyone else seems to rave about. I am averaging 23 on my daily commute which is 18 miles one way with an even mix of highway and city. If I try really hard I can get it up into the 24s but when I turn the AC on it drops. I tried runnnig premium and ran a bunch of cleaner through it but that just made it hard to start. It would turn over until the starter stopped and then start the 2nd try. One mechanic told me that the fuel pressure was bleeding down and that the fuel pump assembly needed changed to the tune of $700. I started running regular in it again and the hard starting went away. Now it's just a poor mileage issue. I have verifed the mileage manually and get close to the same numbers. Any thoughts / ideas. Anybody heard of starting issues?

Thanx!!!!
