Discounted HHR Extended Warranty?
Hey All.
My mom just bought a 2007 HHR today, and ended up buying the extended warranty (5 yr/100k miles) for something like $400.
This caught my attention, because when I bought a Prius early this year and I remember finding a dealer online through a Prius community who was willing to sell an extended warranty at 1/4 of the price my local dealer offered.
What I'm wondering is if Chevy warranties work the same way as Toyota's do, where you can purchase from any dealer nationwide and at a substantial discount if you find the right dealer. If so, does anyone know a good dealer to contact for a discounted warranty?

for some reason, one of the finance companies I spoke to mentioned something to the affect that they "could not offer an extended warranty on a used car because it was in California"
I dont know if that was because THEY were NOT in CA, or if it was because I and the car WERE in Calif...or if the CS rept had no clue what the answer was.
GM quoted me $2900 to add a 5/100k to my 06 HHR...that's 100k from now, not AFTER the factory warranty expires.
I am near the end of the standard 3/36...so I am sort of on the fence...for $2900, they can kiss my tailgate.

Boulder Bum......
You mom DID NOT BUY a GM warranty for $400, even if she purchased through a GM dealer. Some of the dealers will sell anything they can make money on....without a conscience. What she acquired, may not be worth the paper it's written on. Generally speaking, GM warranties are about 3 times that price..
Sounds like she purchased something from one of the "fly-by-night" outfits.....I hope not, BUT........
TomHHR....remember that 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty is ONLY on the drivetrain.

we purchased an extended warranty on another car we bought used 4 years ago...it was "aftermarket"...we bought it through the dealer. The company was called PAW or UAW or something like that(expired now).
It cost us about $800 on top of the price we negotiated, and was paid for through our car's financing.
it was actually a good warranty. Work did NOT have to be done at the dealer. If a repair was needed, the shop had to contact the warranty company for approval, and then was issued a credit card number for payment(less the deductible).
My GF's brother owned the shop, and he and I did the work(simple water pump repair), and it was covered under what was called an "estate warranty"...covered everything...bumper to bumper, including HID bulbs, ballasts, air suspension, computers, complete drivetrain, paint, you name it.
so sometimes you may think you got hosed, but sometimes you actually might have a good warranty.
Unfortunately, we only used about $150 of the $800 it costs us(plus finance charges, of course), but had a tranny gone bad, or the air suspension began to leak, it would have paid for it.
it would have been easy to scam the warranty company since I know all there is to know about the car itself, but I am not inclined to losing any sleep over comitting fraud.
The warranty was for 3/36, and I think we put about 2500 miles on it during that time.
Yes, we still have the car, and it is a garage queen...even though I paid more for my HHR, the 97 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC still gets the garage.

My dealer wanted 1800 for 72 months, I told them if I needed it I'll come back in 34 months and write a check for it.

I got a letter in the mail yesterday from GM offering 36 months/54,000 miles for $1400. This is more than the dealer's orginal offer of $1200 for 60 month/50,000 miles. Considering I'm at 20,000 miles after 18 months and have had only regular maintenance done to the vehicle, that offer went right in the trash.

I bought one extended warranty, it was on a 1999 Chevy Venture. When I received the paper and read it I respectfully declined. All of them I have seen cover the things that they know is not likely to happen, but will not cover the things that should be covered. These people that sell the warranties know what they are doing and they are not in business to hand out money for fixing your car. They are like all insurance companies, they are in business to collect premiums.
