Does 5 yr/ 100,000 mile warranty automatically transfer to new owner?

The title says it all. I just wondered if the factory warranty automatically transfers over because I just purchased a 2011 HHR 1LT and the timing chain is going bad. I replaced the timing chain tensioner but it doesnt sound any better and is getting ready to go. I have 86k miles on my 2011.

Yes... It is automatically transferable.

You need to check the "Put In Service Date" with a GM Service Dept. to make sure you are still covered.
Good Luck,

Perfect! Do I need to do anything to activate the warranty on my behalf?

No. They will take your Vin number and that will tell them how much time is on the HHR.

That should be all that is required but check first to make sure that they don't give you a bad time or something. Some Dealers play games unfortunately.

Based on your previous post that this HHR was purchased from a repo/auction house, you should contact your local GM dealer regarding any warranty info.
Not trying to scare you, but there could be circumstances where the warranty has been voided. Hopefully not.
Best for you to get your answers straight from GM if this car is covered by the powertrain warranty or not.

Why would you mention it to them?

I would think if the new tensioner failed and caused damage to other parts of the engine, but other than that. ? I would go ahead and change it.
