Does anyone make a soft cover for the cargo area?
I am looking for a cover for the cargo area , a soft cover mabye like a stretchy piece of fabric that you can button in or something. This would be at the level of the seat backs. Just to cover up whats in the cargo area.
Anyone head of anything like this or am I gonna have to learn to sew?
Any help would be appreciated

I'd say learn to sew. I wanted something like this back when I had a Suburban, but they just don't make full vehicle length cargo covers.
Maybe you could get a vinyl truck bed cover... should have snaps on it. Then you could attach snaps to the interior of the HHR. Might be worth investigating.

If you are looking for something retractable you could get a light blocking shade made for windows in the house. The last time I orded some for my bedroom I think jcpennys could order them in custom lengths.
You would probably have to modify the blinds color to match the interior of the car though. Might not be too hard to do though. Use some spray-adhesive to attach some vinyl to it that would match your interior.
Just my 2. good luck.

I've looked all over the 'net and I can't find any universal retractable tonneau covers for that area. I'll bet that one could be found out there from another model of SUV or wagon and made to work. I had one in my 95 Explorer and it was pretty handy. Make some measurements and check wrecking yards.

any upholstery shop can sew one up for you, in a variety of colors. Just have them sew in an elastic rope around the seams so you can attach it to hooks than you may wish to install yourself. a 'trampoline' essentially. it'll be able to absorb the sub hits without distortion, yet hide the subs underneath.
that is my eventual plan. I would guess an upholsetry shop can take measurements, show you some fabrix/material samples, and have you come back when it's done. I'd guess less than $100.

I was talking to my friend about that. His little Kia Rio wagon came with one.
I'd like something similar. The extra cargo shelf is a good idea, but the mounts are too low to clear the holder I have in the back for washer fluid, etc.
