Doing flood mode clear

I seen a Mechnic on YouTube do this on a ford eco boost that was rattling on a cold start which doing this there was no rattling on start up .. so I was wondering if you can do this on a hhr when temps are cold on first start up ? I would think this will help before any rattling starts or people have a slight one on cold start up .. I mean this wil build oil pressure for cam followers by pre lubing ..

I just tried, the turn the key to run let the fuel pump prime a few seconds, then turn the key to start and release. Just 6F outside and no cold start rattling. Several members have mentioned this, Silverfox and sleeper, and it works. Try it.

was there an attachment for that YouTube video, it’s not in your post!

I’m start to start the BlackSwan like this now, seems a lot quieter.

When I commented, the video wasn’t up, my method just primes the fuel injectors. Nothing to do with priming the oil pump or lubrication system

I always do this year-round. It's a habit for me.

Flood clear is to put the accelerator pedal to the floor and then crank. I would think that it would indeed build oil pressure and prime the lubrication system before the engine starts.

yes that is the purpose just building up pressure on cold start in cold weather would really help our cars ..

OK, I give up. How does running the fuel pump pump oil? Is there a secret electric oil pump?

It's not running the fuel pump. Just like carberated engines, pedal to the metal while cranking clears a flooded condition. It doesn't start as quickly as usual, but he's using it as a cheat to get the oil circulating.

If the crankshaft is turning the oil pump is pumping, it doesn't care what the TB is doing. Or, does flood mode cause extra cranking time with no start?
My OCD habit has always been get in the driver seat, stomp on accelerator, step on brake start. Throwback to carbs.
You do NOT hold the key in start; it is a momentary switch, the computer turns the starter off when the engine starts. Just a comment for future readers.
turning the key to acc will run the fuel pump for 3 seconds. Probably enough to prime the pipes and injectors, if the fuel pump check valve is leaking.

Flood mode (pressing gas pedal all the way down and cranking) tells the computer to run the starter but apply no fuel out of injectors. So yes, don, it causes extra cranking time with no start. If you hold the pedal down and momentarily turn to start the engine will keep cranking. There's probably some time limit programmed in to keep the starter from overworking, like maybe 10 seconds or so.

This is intentionally programmed into cars.

I have done this a few times after an oil change and it does indeed work. Make sure you keep the pedal all the way down, if you let off a little you will have a high-rpm start suddenly!
