Don't Ever Run Out Of Gas !!!!

Ran out of gas the other day. Called the wife and luckily she came by and brought me a 1 gallon Container for gas. She took me to the Nearest Gas Station (About 1 Mile Away). Dropped me off where the HHR was Sleeping and Drove Off thinking I would be Ok Since All I Needed was Gas Right !!!

WELL..... after Calling the Dealership Because the Freakin thing still would not start, Turns out I needed at Least 2 Gallons of Gas in Order for the HHR to START Let's just say this FAT GUY got his Excercise Today

Doesn't it have something to do with the fuel pump. I have heard of it in other vehicles.

Was the car sitting level? or off to the side of the road with a tilt.

Or maybe when it ran out it cleared out the lines so when you put in more gas you had to refill 2 gallons in the lines?

I was in that same situation. Lucky for me a friend hung around making sure it started, as it was cold out. When it didn't start, after dumping a gallon and a half of gas in it, I was slightly worried it was more than just a gas issue.

We ran back to the gas station, and as I returned noticed a car pulling out from behind my HHR. As we passed I noticed it was a cop. I didn't see any ticket, but noticed that when you look into the drivers side window, the info bar says "LOW FUEL", which probably saved me a ticket. I threw in another gallon and was very relieved it started. Needless to say, I was surprised it needed more then a gallon and a half.

Was the key still in it? Never saw anything on the DIC without the key in before (except mileage when you open the driver's door). Or is it a new feature that helps you beat parking tickets?
