OK - I park my car in BFE - next to a curb or something - and they magically appear - door dings. I've owned a bunch of cars - and none have been more inclined to dings than this one. Is the car made out of tin foil? I even have a dent in the tailgate - next to the chrome bar that has the bowtie on it.

I baby this thing - and every time I wash it or wax it I find a new ding - Surely I am not the only person who has this issue....

 

I have a few dings, but i also park as close to the store as i can. lol . so yeah. and i do construction work and carry tools n my car.. so that dont help at all.

 

Door dings.........they'll find you no matter where you're parked.

As far as the dent in the tail gate, sounds like someone's been pushing on the tail gate to close it instead of using the "cup" in the door.

 

Maybe You Need to Park in "BFE" X 2 ! My Guess is that is How they Obtain those MPG figures! I'd Swear you Look at this thing Cross Eyed and a Dent will appear !

You would be correct. Weight is a big factor on all components for MPG results.

 

I have several dings and small dents. Door dings I can understand, but I have a small dent on the top of the driver's side front fender. How that got there, who knows. The car does have some "light" duty metal. I'm thinking (when I get motivated) of trying the hair dryer heating the area, then blasting it with the sub zero refrigerant from the canned duster. I've seen some videos of that working on some small dents. Formed metal does have memory effects that when the stress is relieved it pops back to its original shape. That must be hoe the "Ding Doctors" do those repairs.

 

I have one of these too but on the passenger side.

 

Paintless dent repair is an really an art. They must be able to access the inside of the panel that is dented and they use thin rods to slowly push the dent back out. They start at the edges an work toward the middle of the dent. They have to use high intensity lighting so they can see metal move as they work it out. A dent the size of a dime or smaller takes about 20 to 45 minutes of tedious work to get out. I have seen them take out dents the size of small plate with this method.

 

ChevyMgr is correct, I have worked with a few that do this technique at the Oshawa plant. That was there jobs at the plant "ding repair". It would usually take them 5- 10 mins. They also had another worker do the tear down so the dings could be accessed(ie-tail light removal,etc). The rods that were used had several different widths per the size of the ding. Rods were like extensively long screwdrivers with rounded ends that were bent at 90 degrees. Afterward the ding was buffed with a wax finish and the ding would completely disappear.
