I checked mine again this morning, and at 80mph, I it put the pedal down and it did downshift. It work fine in my HHR.

Also, the HHR has an "I" gear, which is not like most auto trans 2nd, it actually shifts firmer and is more "peppy" running than drive. Additionally, the HHR effectively has a 5-speed auto, as the converter "locks up" whenever you back off the throttle. I can actually hear 5 gears shift when driving.

It's a very fun vehicle - I think you will like it!

I was in "D." You can shift down to "I" though and get some more speed.

that is what i have done,,, go so far and then pop it in I and go faster.

I checked mine. No problems at all. All I had to do was clutch it and move the shifter from 5th to 4th.
