I gear is for holding speed on an incline.
Using cruise control while driving in I gear, you can but why? It’s gonna use up more fuel.

Why?

It will never go into overdrive. The shift points are different. Basically turning a 4 speed into a 3 speed.

I use I gear as warp drive to get up to speed after passing through one of the many school zones I have to drive through at 15 MPH with not a kid nor car in sight, just that flashing amber light telling me I have to go slow, and the angry tailgater trying to nudge me forward. As for holding speed on an incline, Gregg has never had problems carrying speed in D.

It says driving down an incline, which I refer to as a decline. I guess it depends on which end of the hill you’re on!

Oh so it employs some engine breaking?

Nope , transmission gearing, it won’t shift to overdrive or lockup the torque converter.

It does do some engine braking, not sure if the torque converter is fully locked but it does slow you down especially above 3k rpm.
I never use it with cruise control as I find the computer does a pretty good job managing the throttle/gear changes to maintain speed.
