Yeah, me too. I drove my 40 Ford Panel all over the US with little 3" spots. The HHR mirrors are like panarama in comparison.

You could install "back-up" sensors.

Those are the stock mirrors on my '36 delivery.

 

My wife runs the 3" mirrors on her 26 coupe and I just installed a set of jr. west coast mirrors with the 4" spot mirrors on my 49 Willys. I must be growing older at a faster pace.

 

I thought so. Cause back then there weren't so many options for anything. I did put convex mirrors on the head which worked perfect tight traffic. Rule of thumb was, if you could see something in the mirrors just stay where you were.

 

And a darn good rule it is!

 

the coolest thing now is to have small cameras (moulded in) mounted on 45 degree angles facing to the rear on both sides near the front door pillars with 4" LCD's worked into the dash for additional viewing. It is the way to go for the Rad Customs. Way baddass.

 

I might just have some wireless cameras molded under my sideview mirrors so that they are invisible at first glance. The LCDs could even be mounted in the driver's sun visor if one didn't want to mount them near or on the dash.

 

I just drove from Michigan to Florida and back (over 2k miles) with the HHR full to the top. Couldn't see out of the back or side windows. I did it fine...took a little getting used to, but you learn to use your mirrors and you can tell how far away cars are by using them. I will admit it was tricky in rush hour traffic at night in Nashville, but somehow I escaped unharmed...
