DRL question

I have noticed that different HHRs have different DRLs. Mine has the main headlights on during the day, while others that I see have only the parking lights on in the front. Is there a way for me to change the settings of my DRLs? I retrofitted my headlights with factory HIDs and don't want the bulbs to burn up prematurely because of this.

I know that 2006 and 07's have parking lights only during the day. The later ones, I think, run the headlights. I have gone through quite a bit to find a way to disable the DRL's but to no avail. I changed fuses and tried to get the dealer to help and nothing worked. Just have to turn them off manually every time you start the car. Sorry.

Only 2006 models use the parking lights as DRL's, 2007-2011's use the high beam filaments at 80% of the normal voltage as DRL's. Check out this thread for some ideas to disable the DRL's, some better than others.....

Yes as already stated 2007's and newer use the headlight at reduced voltage for the DRL's. I frankly think the 2006's amber parking light only, looks better, but I suspect there may have been some heat issues with that light on during the daytime.

I don't know...we've had ours since new and haven't had to change the bulbs yet.

My suggestion? Get some good Switch-back LED turn signal lights.. White when not blinking, and amber/orange when signaling..

That's what I would like to do! (Along with another LED project) but my HHR is an '07... so I would have to find a way to rewire the DRL circuit from the high beam to the FRONT[only] running lights.

I have the same deal with DRL headlamps.. I just notch it forward one when I start the car, and when I want the headlamps on, I change it.

If ya have foglights, when you turn them on in daytime, the DLR's go off & parks light up, with the fogs..
