honestly, all this dyno talk has been on several topics and for what? I'm gonna start calling you guys "dyno-bots or dynosaurs". Do what you feel is good for your HHR and be easy...
we need to ban the use of the word (Im not actually serious here)...call it the "d-word". it only brings out the ugly in people and nobody is really gonna put their car on the machine to prove anything, we've seen in the intake debate and on the header issue...why even ask? Its almost like that's the ultimate challenge that you know won't be met, just like the schoolhouse playground.
if you happen to dyno your car and wanna post the results...great...otherwise quit with the woof tickets! Better yet, post your dyno-grief here so those that don't really care can read about mods without your dyno-chatter or getting it locked/deleted. Its also a way to discuss your dyno-envy in a positive way aside from otherwise interesting topics.
disclaimer: This post if strictly for venting and awareness purposes only. The poster does not really expect you to stop the dyno-blabber or hope to police you in any way. This is no way connected to the administration of this site or the moderation there-in. "dynobot, dynosaur, dyno-grief, dynochatter, dynoenvy and dynoblabber" are trademarks of teech posting inc. and should not be used without express posted consent. As you were.

Dyno sheets and track slips are about the only proof someone could provide to prove actual performance gains. Unfortunately most of us are unwilling to shell out the cash for dyno time just to prove a point. Parts manufacturers should provide a dyno chart though, like K&N or Magnaflow are willing to do. I agree it is pretty pointless to demand them out of your average HHR owner. Now if you own a shop on the other hand.

I just get sick of the "show me the dyno" routine. nobody ever does it, and there are just way too many factors preventing a true result...so much that even "showing the dyno" is gonna be deemed invalid and scrutinized to death.
the way I see it, none of these mods are "monster mods" and nobody's really racing HHRs, so most of this stuff is for consmetics (even the performance stuff) for fun or braggin rights at the car show. To hell with a dyno!

In my local area there are quite a few chassis dynos, so availability is not an issue. I for one would like to know what gains are possible with a header, intake kit, or cat-back exhaust. Manufacturers might claim lets say a 10hp gain but at what RPM is the gain? Is it all at upper rpm? Is that Peak HP? Is the gain only in one gear? Does it lose power at any specific RPM/gear? Does it have gains in HP throughout the RPM range? These are some of the questions only a dyno will show you. I for one would like to know especially if I'm going to put down my hard earned money on a performance product.

From what I read in the threads and received reports, issues aren't necessarily from the topic of dyno-blabber it's self. It's the public jabs, subtle insults and negative personal commentary that members throw at each other that's causing issues. These debates are great until that stuff starts happening.

I realize that I am not the most experience car guy on this board, but what kinds of kinds are we talking about....max?
2. What other factors are contribute to the results that any individual posts on this board? Type of exhaust, type of intake, baseline numbers, quality of facilty and those performing the dyno, etc...
Even if you post a dyno supporting the claims that your making, folks are gonna pick that thing apart and not believe it anyway, so what's REALLY the point to even asking for it? Just to squawk even more about how you think somebody else's mods aren't cool enough...

my little tirade is just about the issue of how demanding dyno ruins a debate almost every time...its the great thread ender..."show me the dyno then". It is just as much a jab...the little slap in the face of somebody's hard work. Im not trying to make a major issue of it...this thread was actually created in jest, hence the disclaimer. But it is rediculous nonetheless...
again, i didn't mean for the tone of this post to be disgrultled. I can tune out and avoid topics and discussions that I don't care to read, no problem. I really just wanted to point it out to people.
Sindy, a lot of the jabbing, personal insults, etc. are born out of disrespect for someone else's viewpoint/experience/creation. There is MORE THAN ONE WAY to skin a cat or mod an HHR and there are LOTS here that don't believe that. But anyway, hows about a beer? First rounds on me!

I think what we have to remember here is that unless you are talking about a Supercharger or a Turbo, the gains on the 2.2L/2.4L are going to be very modest for your average bolt on. You have to take some things people say with a grain of salt. If people want to pick something apart then thats their problem.
There are a lot of factors that determine the end result, but as long as you do the before and after test the same way and in same conditions then the results should be pretty accurate.

My sentiments exactly.

I posted this in another thread but feel it belongs here also.
