My rotors just went!

Well, drove to Carlisle for the swap meet Wednesday night, and going up and down the mountain, my rotors went to hell. I actually had so much shake in the wheel I thought I had a loose front wheel. Car has 6000 miles on it and is four months old.

I talked to a guy who sells conversion rotors for 60s-70s cars and asked if he had anything for me. Said no, and there really was no fix. I don't buy that, as it certainly seems some of the higher-quality rotors you guys have been talking about should eliminate the problem.

Am sure I'm under warranty, but it seems stupid to put on the same type of junk and have them go bad in a few months. Has GM come out with a better rotor? Are they all this bad, or am I just one of the unlucky ones? I did note in an earlier thread that torking them correctly is important, and I will stress that when dealing with GM. Ideas?

My Chevy dealer wants $440.00US to do the front rotors and pads. I'd rather put the money into better gear for sure.

I'm just looking for good grocery getter rotors. Nothing real showy, but a long time functional and great stopping setup. Any suggestions?

Ones with difficult break in routines will not cut it since we really do simply drive the car each day for work etc.

I recommend these brakes to everyone they are sooooo nice all the shaking went away. it was getting bad if i would go over 45 with my old ones then hit the brakes it would shake like a crack head. now i got my car to 100 mph hit the brakes and it was smooth as silk. Plus they look a 100% better

Is is possible to just purchase the new rotors for $203 and use my old pads? I only have 6000 miles on them, and would just as soon save 83 bucks if I could.....

they recommend getting their pads they have a special coating that removes the black zinc coating on the rotors.

Now the Slotted rotors and "Red Stuff" pads require a break in period?
"
.....Features EBC Brake-In™ surface coating which conditions rotor surface and accelerates pad bed-in."

So is it like my metallic brakes shoes in my racing Corvair? A few 70MPH -0 stops or some such?
