Engine temps
So call me lazy, could search, but what are people seeing as "normal" temps and what do you consider as getting up there and what temp is it time to bail out?

Mine usally hangs around 190-192. I did see it go up to 204 for a bit earlier this week.

I'm in SoCal too, here are my findings:
192-196 here during normal driving
200-215 stuck in crawling fwy traffic
220-235 after 10 monster dyno pulls:
Even after the full-throttle dyno runs, the HHR seemed to cool off very quickly.
I don't think there's much to worry about under most regular driving conditions.
It's a tough little engine.

Thanks for the info. Was thinking about it when I saw 219 early am, but Grapevine is quite a grade. Liked I gear better, no OD. Whats that behind your fan, your tube frame, rear engine HHR project!

As far as norm temps, my HHR usually runs at about 196. The highest I've seen it go was to 202. As far as time to "bail out"? Don't know, and hopefully will never have to.

I've seen mine get to 220* before in heavy midday traffic here in FL, and that temp really doesn't concern me at all. Most cars these days run hotter than they used to for better emissions compliance and really the cooling systems are totally capable of handling this.

SE Michigan fall, winter temps
Hope to increase w grille nostril mods. (See my other post today).
Since I only recently had the serious plan to modify the grill, I haven't tracked summer temps.
What's considered normal for temperate zones like Midwest, Northeast (NY, OH, PA, IL, etc.)?
What temps ea. season are ideal?

There is no need to worry about the engine temperature - it is working as designed - the thermostat is adjusting the coolant flow as needed. Monitoring the digital temperature readout, has led a fair number of owners to be too obsessive (as noted in post 11 above).
