Could somebody please explain what Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, and Enhanced Traction System and how they relate to each other? Are all three of these systems standard equipment on all HHRs? If not, how do you tell which ones you have?

No , not standard on all HHR's , option list on your glove box door shows the option codes, search them in the search window.

As old blue said you're going to have to check your build tag in the glove box. Most vehicles with the ABS option are going to have ESC. They are both monitored from the sensors in the front wheel hubs. I think traction control is standard on the SS model, not sure on the others. It too is monitored by the sensors in the hub.

I know because all 3 have gone on and off together when I replaced my front wheel bearings. Not sure about enhanced traction control...sounds like I need it though!

The anti lock brakes, traction control and electronic stability control all work together.

The traction control works by applying the brakes to the drive wheel that is slipping forcing the drive power to be sent to the other wheel and back and forth as need.

The electronic stability uses steering, wheel speed and roll sensors. when the system detects the car not going the direction the driver wants to go it will apply individual brakes and or reduce engine power to bring the car under control.

The anti lock brakes reduces brake pressure to any wheel that stops rotating while the others are still turning during a stop.

On page 1-3 in the owner's manual, referring to the button on the dash, it states:

"G. Traction Control System (TCS) on page 5-9 (If Equipped). Electronic Stability Control (ESC)."

Is ECS standard and TCS optional? My 2010 has RPO codes NW9 and JL4. Does this mean I have TCS and anti-lock brakes? Is ECS just a catch-all name for the entire system?
