I've been "self insured" for almost 20 years on consumer goods, and I'm waaay ahead of the game financially. I did have to pay for a couple of large repairs over that period, but even that doesn't come close to what I haven't paid in insurance premiums. It's a gamble that plays on consumer emotions, and it's heavily tilted towards the manufacturer of the good.

Bonus: when I do have to pay for a repair, I don't have to fight to get it covered/approved, I get to pick who does the work and with what parts, and if I deem that it's not worth repairing, it's also my decision.

I like it that way.

When you buy the warranty at the time of purchase, your are correct. Not if you buy from GMPP after the purchase. The additional mileage is started from the date of purchase of the warranty. It is not added to the end of the factory warranty. That is why on this program I will wait until the warranty is almost over if I decide to purchase it.

Different animal.

$1380 to purchase it before 24K miles. That would leave about a 14-16 month overlap on coverage with the factory warranty.

$1800 to purchase after 24K miles (to the factory 36K). Then I would get a fresh new 54mo/36Kmile warranty. Personally, I think it would be better to spend the extra $420 at the end verses having them overlap.

We're kinda in the same boat, our 06 just cross over 36,000 and we also got an EW offer. But, here's my thought. We really want a white HHR so if we find one we want and trade ours in then add the negative to the new ones total and say our payment goes up 50 bucks then we get a 100,000 mile warranty which is 64,000 more miles then the GMPP offers which would cost around 33 bucks divided out for 54 months(1,800 /54). I think I'm figuring that out right. The mileage should run out before the months. JMO

I'm better on my mileage, my 06 will roll 21K miles on the way home from work, at lunch today it was reading 20993. I know once we move this summer my mileage will increase faster than it has since we bouth it (Sept 06) sue to a longer commute and we use it more with gas prices they way they are. So I won't be too far from the 3 yr point when I get close to 36K miles (actually my warranty ends at 36,609). I'll probably sign up around the 34-35K mark just for coverage. Not interested in trading, this one is almost paid off....

this is the quote I got:
over 24,000 but under 36,000
60/75,000
0 dedut. = 2,015.
100.00 deduct. = 1650.
200.00 deduct. = 1375.
can not purchase after 36,000 miles

Solman where did your quote come from?

Just wondering... Is there tax on the extended warranty also? You know the government must need to get their fingers in there.
