The GM extended warranties are a highly profitable item for most stealerships. I purchased the Major Guard 72/100/0 which is 72 months, 100,000 miles, and no deductible. Major Guard covers everything, bumper-to-bumper except for normal wear items. i.e. belts, hoses, brake pads, clutch disc, tires, etc.
A few items of note concerning the GM Protection Plans (GMPP). You can purchase them anytime during the initial vehicle warranty period. The cost is the same as long as you purchase within the first year of ownership. After the first year, the cost escalates slightly but you can still purchase them. They are good at any GM dealership worldwide.
Don't be pressured to purchase immediately and ask a bunch of questions concerning the warranty they are trying to sell you. Most stealerships rename the warranty's and add a bunch of bogus add ons that increases the cost to the consumer but doesn't add additional value or benefit the consumer.
I know prices are going up very quickly, but here is what I was quoted for all the different GMPP's. I wouldn't pay much more than what's listed here. Prices are in USD.

There are modules on these cars that the non-gm warranties have never even heard of, so they are not covered by them. They usually only cover the commonly known parts such as fuel pumps, but if the fuel level sensor fails, it's not covered, even though it may be part of the fuel pump assembly. I recommend always going with the manufacturers warranty over the others.

I just got 1 for 48 months or 60,000 miles for 1000.00 and a 200. deductible. This will take me thru the payoff period. I got it at 35,997 miles. It maybe a waste of money but so is every payment I have sent to my insurance company. Nice to know Im covered
