find Hood Ajar sensor

Hi, This may sound like a dumb question but where is the hood open/ajar sensor located? My elderly father is 1100 miles from me and needs to find/replace the sensor but says he can't find it. He said "could you get on that new interweb thing and ask someone?"
Thanks for any help.

I never knew the HHR had one? I know I've pulled mine in/out of the garage and only had the hood down while working on it and never saw one.

You know, that may be. His is a "08. The mystery is that he's getting an open indication on the dash. It's been happening since he hit a deer up in Montana and "fixed" the car himself.

The sensor might be built into the hood latch.

look on the hood latch its self. there should be two wires and a plugin that are on the left side of the hood latch and that is what your looking for. If the hood latch is broaken or messed up some how you might get a open reading from it.

I believe that it's only for the cars w/automatic. Mine's a 5 speed and it does not have one anywhere.
Plus, I don't even have that icon on my dash.

If it has factory installed remote start (RPO AP3) it has a hood ajar switch. It is the key to "adding remote start without AP3". It is right there at the latch.

It is NOT the airbag impact sensor which is also in the same area, but mounted to the inner side of the engine compartment.

I'll bet that he also is complaining the the remote start doesn't work anymore.

I am guessing that the deer in question actually busted a wire, or misaligned the switch part of the latch. The switch is a fairly complex if-then loop thing.

X 2, my 08 has it on the hood latch, & on the rear hatch also. If either is not fully closed, it lets ya know..

edit: IIRC, it's in the owners manual..

From the owners manual:

The remote vehicle start feature will not operate if:
• The remote start system is disabled through
the DIC.
• The vehicle’s key is in the ignition.
• The vehicle’s hood is open
• The hazard warning flashers are on.
• There is an emission control system malfunction.
See Malfunction Indicator Lamp on page 4-35.
• The engine coolant temperature is too high.
• The oil pressure is low.
• Two remote vehicle starts have already been
provided

( Huh? The oil pressure is low? It won't have any oil pressure if it's not running. Not sure about this one)
