first gear don't engage first time, but the second to the first yes

I’ve driven many vehicles over the years that you could use that clutchless technique. My SS is one that you can’t.
Regardless he needs to see if it does if in other gears.

This. Or a dragging TB. Or worn synchro due to all the other problems.

i habitually shift to second and then to first. Maybe even run through 4-3-2-1 when the car is cold. Have done so since I began doing it when I was learning to drive at age 15. May 5th before reverse, too. Think I have drive cars that didn’t even have syncro in 1st and reverse.

Also, give it a second between pushing in the clutch and shoving it into 1st.

Just random thoughts. I’m not really awake yet.
