paint chips. I have them on all my vehicles, regional hazard from semis and sanding for ice. I just have never had so many so quickly.

Same regional hazard here...... The HHR has a little more exposed areas of paint that are nearly vertical and newer GM paint seems to be more fragile. It's a bummer that you picked some up so quickly, but it's almost "to be expected" with these cars. I haven't even begun to count how many I got this winter, seen a few in passing but I'll break out the touch up in a month or so and deal with them then.

"several of us have a bottle of touch up paint in the glove box"

Amen Brother Greybeard. There are some issues with paint being "thin" on the HHR's, but that really affects almost any newer vehicle, not much you can do but try to avoid situations where chips are more likely.

Many here have reported good results with Dr. Colorchip kits, including SS Fan who had his HHR comprehensively rock and stone blasted on a run to Canada last year. Best advice is to back off if you're following another car in chip territory and maybe consider removable chip guard tape on the nose for long trips.

I use some I get from Griot's Garage, if you haven't checked them out yet, here's a link for you. Be warned though, they have all sorts of goodies you may find yourself not being able to live without.

I just did 1300 miles in my HHR, fully loaded front and back and averaged 30.1 mpg.
