Fog light bulb......

Bumping an old thread I know , did you burn a hole in your lenses yet? I have a burnt out lamp and saw the 9005 and that they were 65w. I also saw another that would fit that were 55w, both high beam bulbs. I'm not concerned about the wiring , just the housings as I have done it before on other cars running hot bulbs.

I looked into replacing the bulbs in the fogs on my Impala, but a Chevy parts guy that I trust told me that in about 2-3 months, the excess heat would melt the adhesive holding the lens to the light assembly. He also said that people installing Xenon lights and other similar lights in stock GM headlight assemblies would see the same problem. Only the light assemblies designed for Xenon and higher wattage bulbs would hold up.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is the wiring to the lamps. With 65W, you're pulling almost double the amperage over wiring spec'd for half the amperage. I suppose if the fuse hasn't blown, you're probably okay, but it's still not the greatest idea.

Aircraft Landing Lights
I used to have a friend with a 56 Chevy that had bumper mounted fog lights on it. He put aircraft landing lights in the housings. When you turned those suckers on at night it was like daytime. In fact I was with him once during the daylight and the car ahead was wouldn't get out of his way and when he flipped on the fogs the guy drove off the road trying to get away from them. Later he was seen by a local sheriff who not only gave him a ticket but made them inoperable with his night stick.

With the 65w bulbs they are pulling about 5.5 amps. Lets say the wire is 12 gauge which i'm pretty sure it is. 12 guage wire is rated at roughly 9.3 amps of power transmission which leaves plenty of headroom.
It will be fine

If I remember right the headlights and the fogs both use a 10amp fuse.
