And for those who think otherwise, even AGM batteries need venting.
Under normal use they don't really outgas, but in an "overcharge situation" they will and if you aren't vented, it could be BAD NEWS BEARS!

Yes, the gas is hydrogen, and you don't want that cooped up in your hot car...

We made a hydrogen balloon bomb in high school. Not giving away all the hows, but it was household stuff (more or less), in a vase. We set off a small chemical reaction to fill the balloon, tied it off, then attached a (another secret) long wick. One guy lit the end, and another held the balloon till it was going. It got pretty high, but it was quite the thermal event up above a snowy field... Kids these days have nowhere near as much fun!

The correct battery comes with a vent tube. These days there are quite a few battery sizes that have the vent hole. Unfortunately the tubes that come with get verrrrrry brittle when cold

I beg to differ with you.
I replaced the battery in mine, and the battery had the hole for the vent tube, but no new tube was supplied.
This battery was an Interstate.
Also the vent tube in mine wasn't brittle.
Did change the battery when it was about 80* F.

Beg away! But you can no longer be a chooser.
I guess you got one that had been pilfered or lost in handling. I don't consider 80F cold.
BCI group 90/DIN T5 is correct battery.

Well that answers a ? for me. I bought an '11 LT with 85K last month. Cleaning the interior today I observed the battery, but did not see the vent tube. I had wondered if the battery had been replaced, now I know that it has.

I replaced my OE Battery with one from Advance Auto. No vent line included,
I already knew my vent line & 90* fitting were both in good shape, so I didn't concern myself with finding another.
