Front Plate Removal

Ive seen some threads discussing plate movement, front plate. I m out in Ohio and it looks as the frame is mounted to the bumper with some sort of rivets.

Anyone with experience removing this ungodly appendage?

I'm considering removing mine. The're held in by two rivets. The only negative is after removing the front plate you're left with two vampire teeth marks on your front bumper...

See above link. I live in NY and need a front plate, but I hate having it on the bumper. I got 4 small plastic black rivits. I painted two the color of my car and left the other 2 black. It doesnt look too bad. Then I modified a bracket and bolted it beneath the bumper.

I got lucky with mine. Here we do not need the front plate. Then got lucky that we picked the HHR up before the dealer added any thing like that. Here in Arizona they like to add a sticker on the back with the dealeship name. They did not even have this car long enough to add that.

There are 4 rivets holding the front plate holder on. I drilled mine out and "floated" my frame off the front bumper:

I still hate having to run a front plate - but I like this look better.
It looks a little more custom than the plastic mount.

I should do that to my HHR. For some reason the front plate mount doesn't really bother me though.

What bothered me was that the holder is about 1/2-inch wider than the plate frame - I think it looks sloppy. I wanted the plastic holder to fit tightly to the edges of the framed plate, but instead there was this huge gap on both sides - what's up with that?

I couldn't deal - had to mod!

I never noticed, I'll have to look at it a little better. Now I'll probably notice it that you pointed out and it will start to bother me.
